Johann Hari argues the current economic crisis could be an opportunity for a modern New Deal. This is true, but I don't think the current governments on either side of the Atlantic have the vision to implement one. Hari points out the egregious situation of tax havens at the moment. It would require a big left to the left - in Washington, London, Tokyo and other First World capitals - in order to get the concerted action required to shut these places down. Sadly, am not sure that is going to happen in the short-term. It is a good long-term goal to hope for, though.
