New non-permanent members of the UN Security Council

The UN Security Council has 10 members in addition to the 5 veto-wielding permanent members. The 10 non-permanent members are elected by the UN General Assembly in two group of five - with each group serving a 2 year term. 1 member has to be from Africa, 1 from Asia, 1 from the Americas and 2 from "Western Europe and others".

The five members elected this time are: Uganda, Japan, Mexico, Turkey and Austria. It seems logical to me that Japan is a member - since it is one of the biggest financial contributors to the UN. The choice of Mexico also seems logical, as it is the second-most populous country in Latin America.
