Given the "consensus" among well-connected and powerful opinion-formers that public sector workers need to have their pay cut and that public spending needs to be reduced - Don points out that it actually seems to be a reflection of the tendencies that Michael Young satired in his novel span style="font-style: italic;"The Rise of the Meritocracy/span.
