Correllation of vote by state between 2004 and 2008

This article shows the strong correlation between the Kerry vote in 2004 and the Obama vote in 2008. Most states seem to fit on the 'best-fit' line fairly well. This means that the Democrat vote rose by a similar amount in each state. Hawaii is the main outlier. Perhaps because it was seen as Obama's second 'home state' since he grew up there, it swung to the Democratic presidential ticket more than the national average.
