a href="http://www.wkbw.com/news/local/52270617.html"WKBW:/abr /br /blockquotepIt was April 14, 2004 and Marine Cpl Jason Dunham and his team were trying to flush out Iraqi insurgents after an ambush. As Duhman began searching a row of vehicles one of the drivers jumped out and attacked him. Corporal Kelly Miller and Sgt. William Hampton ran to help./p p"The first thing both of us did at the exact same time was to focus on Jason and starting running toward him," says Sgt. William Hampton. But Dunham cried out, "No, no, watch his hand!" The insurgent was holding a grenade./p p"Everything from there was pure instinct. His instinct was to protect US," says Hampton. Cpl. Dunham threw his Kevlar helmet and his body onto the grenade, to save his comrades. He died when the grenade exploded. Dunham was the first Marine since Vietnam to receive the Medal of Honor. /p pOn Saturday, his parents, Dan and Deb Dunham, looked on as the Navy's newest Destroyer was named in his honor -- the USS Jason Dunham. His mother, holding back tears, christened the warship. His father says his son's name will now live on as a reminder of his courage and of what the military does every day. "I'm a better person just because he was my son," says Dan Dunham./pp...br //p/blockquoteHis parents and this country should be proud of Cpl. Dunham's sacrifice for his fellow Marines and this country. He is one of the reasons why we are winning this war. The crew of the USS Jason Dunham have a hero to live up to.div class="blogger-post-footer"img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/5051247-4702918713002440379?l=prairiepundit.blogspot.com'//div
