(More about him a href="http://rupda.com/yogesh/"here/a.)br /br /He was one of the who authors (a href="http://books.google.com.my/books?id=T1X-GAAACAAJamp;dq=inauthor:Wagner+inauthor:James+inauthor:Au"the other being Wagner James Au/a) who opened a window for me on the anthropology and history of virtual worlds. More than 35 million people around the world were resident in a virtual world in 2007, and the number is growing exponentially.br /br /Three dimensional internet span style="font-weight: bold;"is/span the way of the future so it is important that we learn to understand where we are going and how best to use this exciting new medium - as tool for creative expression, for education, for business, for social networking and - damn it - just for fun (think - the toybox you didn't dare dream of, as a kid).br /br /Guest's span style="font-style: italic;"Second Lives/span is as much the story of a personal journey as of a global digital phenomena, and I loved his stories of the characters he meets, both inside his computer and in span style="font-style: italic;""meatspace"/span. He meets builders, content creators, a Mafia boss, griefers, the king of one virtual world, and an extraordinary character called Wilde (the avatar of a group of severely handicapped individuals in a day-care centre, who may not be able to talk or care for themselves in real life, but can run and fly and build and a href="http://braintalk.blogs.com/live2give/"communicate with their fans/a in a href="http://www.secondlife.com/"span style="font-style: italic;"Second Life/span/a.)br /br /I now very much want to read Guest's first book a href="http://books.google.com.my/books?id=SA0HAAAACAAJamp;dq=tim+guest"span style="font-style: italic;"My Life in Orange/span/a, an account of his growing up in religious communes (an experience which provides him with some very interesting parallels with his virtual existence).br /br /Wagner James Au (span style="font-style: italic;"Second Life/span's best chronicler) has a tribute to Guest a href="http://nwn.blogs.com/nwn/2009/08/rip-tim-guest.html"on his blog/a. And here is a video of the author in both realities :br /br /object width="425" height="344"param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/fD6YEbaHWh0amp;hl=enamp;fs=1amp;"param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/fD6YEbaHWh0amp;hl=enamp;fs=1amp;" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"/embed/objectdiv class="blogger-post-footer"img width='1' height='1' src='https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/7912730-501839965914617417?l=thebookaholic.blogspot.com'//div
